For ages 8–14

With a phone in your hand and a little bit of planning, you can say a lot. In this fast-paced, hands-on workshop, learners explore how to craft, shoot, and share powerful stories using short-form video.
From personal reflections to everyday observations, we’ll guide young creators through the process of making smart, engaging reels that connect, express, and stand out.

What Makes It Magical

What Makes a Story?

We begin with games, prompts, and quick examples to understand the anatomy of a short story:
Start: What's the problem or moment of change?
Middle: What’s the action or journey?
End: Where does it land or leave us?
Learners explore how to make even the smallest stories feel complete—and personal.

Plan

Every great reel starts with a solid plan. We’ll storyboard scenes, write mini scripts, and figure out what we need:
Who’s in it?
Where do we shoot?
What roles do we play?
Even charging your phone becomes part of pre-production!

Shoot It Like You Mean It

Time to roll camera! Learners take on roles—director, actor, cinematographer—as they capture their story using just a smartphone. We guide them on framing, lighting, action, and pacing to bring their 60-second idea to life.

Edit & Add the Magic

Using simple editing tools, we’ll cut, trim, and shape the story. Learners explore how music, voiceovers, sound effects, and even silence change the emotional feel of a video.

Share & Reflect

We end by watching each other’s reels, talking about what worked, what surprised us, and how different minds told different stories. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about being present and expressive.

Meet the Facilitators

Qudrat

Qudrat is a 25-year-old visual storyteller who has never been to school or college—and never needed to. An unschooled learner and lifelong creator, he have been crafting a self-designed life since the age of 8, exploring the world with curiosity, trust, and a deep connection to learning through life and nature. Their creative expression flows through many forms—filmmaking, photography, drawing, sketching, doodling, music-making, skateboarding, origami, and design. Always in the learning and making zone, Qudrat has created films and visual stories for NGOs, movements, artists, and companies, bringing a raw, honest, and poetic eye to everything they do. At the heart of their work is a vision: to make a space—within and around—for creating, sharing, listening, and truly living.
